The folks at Auphonic have posted an article that compares the new Opus audio codec to the current codecs available, provides a fairly thorough look at how the codec works technically, and how you can start using it in these early days. Firefox already includes support, so it will be interesting to see if Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Opera include support sometime soon.
